چکیده
The vertebral artery normally arises from the subclavian artery, and variations in its origin have been described. We describe a unique case of the left vertebral artery arising from the thyrocervical trunk.

A Case Report of Variant Origin of Left Vertebral Artery from Aortic Arch and its Embryological Explanation
Vertebral artery is the first branch of subclavian artery. It merges with the same artery of the opposite side to form basilar artery and becomes one of the important source of blood supply to the brain. Variation in the origin of left vertebral artery was found in 65 year old female during magnetic resonance angiography of the neck vessels. It originated from aortic arch and was longer as ...
متن کاملThe variations of the subclavian artery and its branches.
This study reports important variations in branches of the subclavian artery in a singular cadaver. The origin of the left vertebral artery was from the aortic arch. On the right side, no thyrocervical trunk was found. The two branches which normally originate from the thyrocervical trunk had a different origin. The transverse cervical artery arose directly from the subclavian artery and supras...
متن کاملUnusual origin of the left vertebral artery
Introduction The vertebral artery (VA) is important to posterior cerebral circulation. It arises from the superior surface of the first part of the subclavian artery medial to the scalenus anterior muscle. The vessel takes a vertical posterior course to enter into the transverse process of the sixth cervical vertebra. It continues through the transverse foramina of the cervical vertebrae and af...
متن کاملIpsilateral subclavian steal in association with aberrant origin of the left vertebral artery from the aortic arch.
Five cases are reported of left subclavian steal syndrome associated with anomalous origin of the left vertebral artery from the aortic arch. In all five instances blood flow at the origin of the left vertebral artery was in an antegrade direction contrary to that usually reported in this condition. The distal subclavian artery was supplied via an extensive collateral network of vessels connect...
متن کاملCase Report: Absence of Thyrocervical Trunk
The thyrocervical trunk most commonly arises from the upper portion of the first segment of the subclavian artery, close to the medial edge of the scalenus anterior muscle and after short distance is divided to the inferior thyroid, transverse cervical, and suprascapular artery. This study reports important variations in branches of the thyrocervical trunk in a singular fema...
